Behind the experience.

Thunder City Pro recently completed a comprehensive upgrade to the Tampa Bay Rowdies’ ESPN control room at Al Lang Stadium, outfitting the venue with four Sony HDC-3100 camera chains. This enhancement improves image clarity, expands coverage, and increases creative flexibility to deliver a more engaging and immersive experience for fans both at home and attending each match.

Serving as a turnkey production partner, Thunder City Pro handled every aspect of the project, from initial consultation to final installation and system testing. TCP performed a detailed evaluation of the stadium’s infrastructure, ensured compatibility with the existing control room, and developed a scalable solution to support the Rowdies’ current and future production needs. The result is a fully integrated and high-performance camera system built for the fast pace of live sports.

With this installation, the Rowdies can now capture every kick, goal, and crowd reaction in vivid detail. The system provides smooth multi-angle operation across the stadium and powers a professional-grade ESPN Broadcast and In-House Show show that enhances the atmosphere and keeps fans connected to every moment on the pitch.

Each component in the HDC‑3100 camera chain delivers essential performance for in-stadium production—combining professional-grade imagery, reliable fiber connectivity, operator-friendly monitoring, and intuitive control surfaces. These elements work together to ensure every play, shot, and moment is captured in sharp, broadcast-quality detail.

Key equipment highlights include:

  • Sony HDC-3100 Camera Head
Built around three 2/3‑inch CMOS sensors, this portable system camera delivers rich color and high sensitivity—ideal for capturing fast-paced sports action.

  • HDCU-3100 Camera Control Unit (CCU)
This CCU ensures seamless signal transmission and power over SMPTE fiber, with full control over camera functions from the control room it is perfect for long-distance reliability in stadium environments.

  • HZCPRV50 Permanent 1080P License
Activates native 1080p/59.94 progressive output, enabling full HD imagery without recurring licensing, delivering future-proof video capabilities and ensuring compatibility with evolving requirements.

  • HDVF-L750 Viewfinder
A crisp 7-inch Full HD (1920 × 1080) LCD panel with high contrast ratio and a built-in waveform monitor gives camera operators a vivid and responsive interface to frame every shot with confidence, even under stadium lighting conditions.

  • RCP-3100 Remote Control Panel

Inside the project

Four camera chains for live match coverage

The Rowdies project brought four Sony HDC-3100 camera chains into the ESPN control room at Al Lang Stadium. TCP’s scope included consultation, infrastructure evaluation, integration with the existing control room, installation and system testing. The equipment details show the camera-chain configuration.

Planning a stadium camera package

Map camera locations, transport, control and the formats required by the production. Check the relationship with existing routing and monitoring before finalizing the package. Installation access, a complete signal-path check and operator preparation belong in the project schedule.
